"Your present is craving your attention"
What’s that one thing you did in the past that you wish you could change?
Disclaimer: This is not a motivational post, I just think it might resonate with you.
Although my initial question wasn’t for you to answer, I am sure some of you already started digging through your brain archives. You already had like three-four things lined up and you’d have spilled if this was a physical meet.
My gee, this is to remind you to focus on your today and stop dwelling in the past. Like I said, you’d have gone off if you were to actually answer those questions but one thing you wouldn’t have been able to do was to actually ‘‘change’’ whatever it is because it’s just not possible.
Your present is craving your attention because instead of doing things that’d propel you forward, you are focused on your past, spending time grumbling about ‘the things that could have been.’
I don’t want to make this about me but I remember June 2022, I resigned from a job because I got another one. The new job I supposedly got was more about the things that I love to do and it was remote. On the day my resignation was finalized, the new workplace set up a meeting and I was told that the company wouldn’t go ahead with my employment and that they hoped that I would not stop the project that I already started for them. The issue wasn’t the job I didn’t get because at the time, I actually needed the break, it was the stress that came with changing my LGA as I was an NYSC babe. If you served in Lagos, especially on the Island, you must have heard about the terror that heads Eti-Osa 3 at some point. This woman made my life a living hell and every day, I’d kneel on my prayer mat and list 1000 reasons why that resignation shouldn’t have happened while bawling my eyes out. I could have thought about how to escape that woman but I didn’t, I blamed myself for my resignation everyday until I asked myself ‘Kinni 411?’ It was until I gave my then situation my attention that I figured out what I had to do to get out of the sticky situation.
What is that thing you are hoping to change that’s holding your attention from your current reality? I’ll love to hear your response to this, maybe we’d be able to figure out a 411 together.
In case you were wondering, I got another job the following month, it was remote and it was about my favorite todo thing in the world.
